Jose Mas Elected Vice Chairman
               Austin Shanfelter Elected to Executive Committee

MIAMI, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- MasTec, Inc. (NYSE-MTZ) announced today that it had elected Austin Shanfelter and Jose Mas to the company's Board of Directors.

Mr. Shanfelter is MasTec's President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Shanfelter has more than 20 years experience in providing a variety of infrastructure services to all segments of the industry.

Mr. Mas is MasTec's Executive Vice President -- Corporate Development. Mr. Mas has been with the company since its inception and has previously served as president of MasTec's Local Exchange Network Services group, the company's largest service line, providing infrastructure services to clients such as Bell South, SBC Communications, and Qwest-US West.

The elections fill two vacancies created by the resignations of Joel Citron and Olaf Olafsson. Messrs. Citron and Olafsson both resigned for personal reasons. Mr. Shanfelter also replaces Mr. Citron on the Executive Committee of the Board, and Mr. Mas replaces Mr. Citron as Vice Chairman of the Board. The remaining members of the MasTec Board are Jorge Mas, Chairman, and independent directors Arthur B. Laffer, Joseph P. Kennedy II, Mary K. Bush, William N. Shiebler and Jose S. Sorzano.
